Wellness Works Clinicians now PGAP Trained

Derek Julian and Fergal O’Hagan attended the Progressive Goal Attainment Program (PGAP) clinician training program in January 2005 in Mississauga. This novel program was developed by Dr. Michael Sullivan at the University of Montreal to deal with psychosocial issues that impede recovery from musculoskeletal injuries and pain.

Dr. Alan McAllister new resident psychologistWellness Works Professionals is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Alan McAllister as Resident Psychologist. Dr. McAllister has been in practice since 1994 and treats chronic pain as well as stress, trauma, anxiety, and depression employing behavioural activation, acceptance and mindfulness-based therapy techniques. Dr. McAllister will be serving clients in Wellness Works programs as well as establishing a private practice at the centre.

 

O’Hagan accepted into Work Disability Prevention Researcher Training ProgramFergal O’Hagan has been admitted to the Work Disability Prevention Researcher Training Program offered through the Universite de Sherbrooke in Quebec. The program is directed by Dr. Patrick Loisel, a pre-eminent researcher and clinician in the area of work disability and is an international competition with admission of approximately 12 students per year. O’Hagan is undertaking the 3 year training program in conjunction with his Ph.D. work at the University of Toronto. O’Hagan is studying factors influencing work adjustment in persons with cardiac disease.

 

Wellness Works obtains EOSDP fundingWellness Works Professionals has been selected as a recipient of Eastern Ontario Skills Development Fund monies. The funding is being put toward staff training in the areas of clinical and assessment skills as well as information management. Training funds have already been put to good in giving us the know-how to update our website.

 

Wellness Works clinicians attend exercise therapy trainingSonya Kelly and Richard Haight, both Certified Kinesiologists attended aquatherapy training and cervical spine stabilization training programs in February. The newly acquired clinical skills are already being put to good use in the development of effective exercise therapy programs for clients at the Centre.
